Antenna in mid August started production of a
weekly radio programme to address issues associated with the anticipated
constituent assembly. The main objective of the radio programme
is to raise awareness of constituent assembly and the constitution
drafting process. The radio program will provide coverage not only
of the anticipated assembly in Nepal, but comparative analysis of
constituent assembly in other countries, an analysis of the 1990
constitution, the fundamentals and principles of constituent assembly
and the process of selecting representatives as well as the drafting
of a new constitution.
The first 12–14 episodes will provide an introduction
to constituent assembly with comparative examples from different
countries, and at the same time look at the followed political change.
The subsequent episodes will focus more specifically on Nepal’s
proposed constituent assembly, including the proposals put forth
by the political parties. The final episodes will cover issues of
public participation in the constitution drafting process and provide
analysis of the various proposals under consideration.
The program will run 52 episodes, each 30
minute in length and will be aired through a network of 25 independent
radio stations nationwide. The funding for this program is provided
by National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
