Centrally packaged magazine on conflict resolution and peace-building at national, local, community and household level, with youth as its target audience.
about this program
Chhinophano, a half hour magazine, was designed to share conflict resolution skills and to help find creative solutions to conflicts of the listeners, their families and their communities. Chhinophano was designed in the context of Nepal’s armed conflict which started in 1996, targeting an audience of mainly rural young Nepali men and women living in conflict areas.
Each episode began with a short feature story, raising a particular conflict, followed by an expert sharing different techniques to resolve this issue. The episode concluded with a humorous drama set in the village Chautari with Nepal’s two most popular comedians, Hirabamsha Acharya and Madan Krishna Shrestha, showing some practical examples of the conflict resolution techniques previously shared.
Chhinophano reached the whole country via Radio Nepal’s Central and Regional transmission centers and a network of 26 commercial and non governmental FM radio stations. It was also broadcast internationally through the British Forces Broadcasting Service network (BFBS).
A total of 236 episodes were broadcast between August 2002 and March 2007 and it became one of the programmes with more audience in the country, especially amongst the rural masses, deprived of television. The key to its success was charisma of the drama itself, the program design with 3 distinct and varied modules and diverse local issues raised. |
