Antenna’s Radio Listener Clubs
Since
Chhinophano went on air in October 2002, some 2500 listener clubs
have been formed around the broadcast magazine. This year only,
Antenna has been able to register 500 listener clubs. Each listener
club comprises of 7 to 13 members – mostly between 16 to 32 years
of age. We estimate that Chhinophano informs and engages some 25,000
active young men and women listeners in different parts of Nepal
through its programs. Although we have significant number of listener
clubs registering with Antenna, not all listener clubs are equally
active. Based on Antenna’s database, number of letters and feedback
received, we estimate that around 1200 listener clubs are in regular
contact and active.
Until now, listener clubs have continued to monitor
Chhinophano and provide feedback to the content we produce. Listener
club members have participated in Kachahari discussion component
of Sodhikhoji a radio magazine on conflict transformation produced
in partnership with the 21 local radio stations. The local producers
of Sodhikhoji in the FM stations invited representatives of different
listener clubs in the area to participate in the discussion of the
program.
In the past year we disseminated Listening
Magazine on community mediation to selected active listener clubs.
Some listener clubs have even started mediating conflicts in their
communities. We regularly encourage the listener club members to
send their success and failure stories while mediating local level
conflicts. These letters are being read in the programme. Listener
club members also travel to different parts of the village to reach
non traditional listening audiences and to those areas which do
not have access to radio to disseminate ideas from the listening
magazines.
