about us

Antenna Foundation Nepal (AFN), founded in September 2002, is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization, dedicated to the development of public service broadcasting in Nepal.

MAdhu Acharya - Director of Antenna Foundation Nepal

Antena locates itself as a radio production and training house, staffed by experienced professionals in designing and broadcasting radio programs suitable to Nepal context.

Antenna’s vision is a New Nepal where people enjoy their rights and participate fully in their own development and that of the country. AFN feels passionately that inclusive social, cultural and economic changes are necessary for Nepal to develop. As media specialist, AFN can do something positive to make that happen – AFN's mission is to help change the socio-political landscape of Nepal for the better through production and broadcast of high quality radio content which lead to positive attitudinal and behavioural change.

Regardless of the program's format, AFN involves local communities throughout the production and broadcast process. We jointly identify the needs and issues to be addressed such as community conflicts, peace & democracy process, reconciliation and reintegration…– communities tell us their problems and stories. Each program is the result of in-depth research into the issue to be address to consider its impact at the local level and specific local needs. Our local broadcast partners, the FM stations, have become production partners giving a local flavour and relevance to the issues.

As radio producers, Antenna is in an ideal position to raise critical social issues among wider audience and also act as advocates and agents of change at the national, community and individual level. AFN has three core production teams specializing in Drama Production, Program Production and Doko Mobile Media outreach.

As a radio training house, Antenna technically supports partner FM stations and trains their staff on production, reporting, journalism and management with the aim of enabling local FM stations to better reach local and rural communities in a two way communication: disseminating information and getting their voices heard.

Antenna has its own state-of-the-art production studio in Kupundole, Lalitpur, where all its programs are recorded and distributed, through satellite to more than 50 partner stations and through Radio Nepal, and in-house training sessions are held.
